Information: Two groups of survivors of the battle in the Java Sea were rescued by the Japanese navy on 2 and 3 March 1942, and were put ashore at the Japanese landing site near Kragan. The survivors included 83 from the Hr. Ms. De Ruyter, 1 from the Hr. Ms. Java, 96 from the HMS Jupiter, and 2 from the HMS Electra. The Dutch, British and native prisoners of war were housed in an improvised shelter on the grounds of the wedono of Kragan, where conditions were primitive and the regime hard. They were put to work offloading the ships of the invasion fleet. At the beginning of April they were transferred to Camp Jaarmarkt in Soerabaja.
