In 1945 a new railway line was laid between Tjitjalengka and Madjalaja. Initially, internees were taken daily by train from the 15th Battalion in Bandoeng to work on the railway line. In July two permanent labour camps were set up, and men and boys from the camps in Tjimahi and Bandoeng were housed there. Work Camp North, about 5 kilometres from Tjitjalengka, comprised six bamboo sheds belonging to an old tile works. At the end of the war, only part of the groundwork for the railway line had been achieved. Four days after the Japanese surrender the camp was cleared and the residents taken to Tjimahi and Bandoeng.
