The prisoners of war in Palembang were interned in two camps: the Chinese school (A-Camp) and the Muloschool (secondary school, B-Camp). In March 1944, the prisoners of war from the Muloschool began work on a new replacement central camp on the eastern side of Palembang, at the beginning of the road to Soengeigeroeng. The camp was in the neighborhood of the central electricity station and the waterworks. It was between Japanese military objects: an airfield, encampments, searchlights, and an anti-aircraft gun emplacement. The camp comprised bamboo and atap barracks, encircled by barbed wire. Particularly during the last half year of the Japanese occupation, the food was unusually bad. Thanks to severely insufficient food and years of abuse, the health situation in the camp was terrible, and there were no medicines. The Korean guards in particular were very cruel.
