Information:
At the time of the Japanese capitulation the barracks camp near Kampong Makassar held approximately 3,500 women and children. Immediately after the capitulation more food was provided, and in September there were food drops. Fresh bread was baked for their own use and for the camp houses in the city. The heavy chore shifts in the vegetable gardens were taken over by boys and men who came to the camp in search of family. Messages from family arrived via post and radio. At the end of October the camp was cleared and the residents went to the Ursuline Cloister in Bandoeng. Later the camp, after improvements were made, served as a transit camp for Dutch military personnel.
