In 1941, a semi-permanent camp for native militia was built approximately 200 metres from the Djatingaleh encampment, which was the accommodation site of the 5th Battalion Infantry. In April 1942, the “European” civil servants from the municipal and regional administration in Semarang were interned there. Other male internees from the city and surroundings were later brought there as well. They were housed in wooden barracks, which were encircled by barbed wire. At the beginning of May, approximately 100 civil servants of Indo-European background were released. At the end of July 185 civil servants were taken to the Boeboetan prison in Soerabaja. In August, the encampment was cleared and the remaining internees were taken to Kesilir and Soerabaja.
