Soerabaja is on East Java, opposite the island of Madoera. The old Central Civilian Medical Center was on Simpang, and the new Central Civilian Medical Center was on Viaductweg, both in the city center.
Internees: prisoners of war Number of internees: 300 Information: The old Central Civilian Medical Center was used during the Japanese occupation as a regular camp hospital. From August 1942 to April 1943, approximately 300 sick prisoners of war were interned there. On August 16th all of the sick were taken to the Jaarmarkt Camp. Commendant: kpt. dr. Internees: men, women, and children Number of internees: 1.000 Information: Especially during the attack on Soerabaja (10 to 30 November, 1945) large numbers of wounded flooded into the hospital, probably the new Central Civilian Medical Center. Medical care there was seen to by the doctors Hadiwonoto and Soekirman. Food was scarce and had to be transported from Sidoardjo. Because the ability to care for patients was hampered by heavy fighting and grenade attacks, it was decided to evacuate. From November 13th all of the sick were evacuated by the republicans by train, some to Djombang and some to Malang. Camp leaders: dr. Soetopo
