Information: After Morotai (north Moluccas) and Hollandia were taken back from the Japanese in an Allied offensive beginning in April 1944, the Japanese interned a large number of people they judged to be untrustworthy: natives, Chinese immigrants, Indo-European colonists from the IEV agricultural colony near Manokwari, and Moluccan and Menadonese heihos who had in April 1943 been put to work on the new airfield south of Manokwari. One of the camps they were put into was a primitive camp at the mouth of the Prafi river. Many internees there lost their lives to the regime of brutal violence, total neglect, and systematic starvation.
