Rantauprapat is approximately 300 kilometres south of Medan (East-Sumatra). The rubber plantation of the NV Asahan Cultuur Maatschappij (NV Asahan Cultivation Company) was approximately 30 kilometres north of Rantauprapat, on the South-Asahan railway line of the Deli Spoorweg Maatschappij (Deli Railway Company).

All of the “European” women and children (except boys older than 8 or 10) from Atjeh, Tapanoeli, and the east coast of Sumatra were in the last months of the Japanese occupation held in Aek Pamienke. There were three large barracks camps there, approximately 6 kilometres from each other, on the business road and truck road between Pamienke and Bandardoerian. In Pamienke there was one at a stop for the South-Asahan Line of the Deli Railway Company; in Bandardoerian there were a rubber factory and the connection with the Rantauprapat-Kisaran road. Between camps 1 and 2 there was a central business hospital, which functioned as the camp hospital and is sometimes named Camp Aek Pamienke 4. Aek Pamienke 1 consisted of barracks made of bamboo, wood, and atap, encircled with barbed wire. The interned women and children in Aek Pamienke 1 came from Poelaubrajan D, Batoe Satoe in Tandjoengbalei, Belawan Estate and Gloegoer in Medan. The circumstances were very primitive; the internees were severely weakened by illness and exhaustion, and dozens of them died.
