Bandoeng is on West Java. The cloister of the Ursuline Sisters was on Merdika, in the city center.
Internees: women and children Number of internees: 2.000 Information: Ex-detainees arriving in Bandoeng were immediately received and registered at the cloister of the Ursuline Sisters. They were then taken to other parts of the city, usually to Tjihapit. The largest transported groups to arrive were one of approximately 2,000 women and children from Kampong Makassar (Batavia) on October 6th and one of approximately 2,000 women and children from Struiswijk (Batavia) on November 11th, 1945. The cloister was often overcrowded. There was often not enough food and water, and there were not enough toilets. The women had to keep the building clean themselves; there were no Indonesian personnel. The children could play in the courtyard, which was a large field of grass. Medical care was in the hands of Dr. Von Wesel.
