Cloister of Saint Walter in Tomohon

Information: In January 1942, in preparation for the Japanese invasion, the majority of the women and children in Menado were evacuated to Tomohon. There they were taken to Saint Walter's, a large cloister with a hospital and a boarding school. After the occupation of Tomohon on 12 January, all "Europeans" were taken to the School of Saint Joseph in Menado and there interned. On 15 January the women and children were returned to Saint Walter's. At the end of March they were taken to the Laurierschool in KaƤten.
