Information: In the chalk mines and chalk factory of Matoeangin, detachments of prisoners of war from the infantry encampment in Makassar were put to work. Due to the language barrier with the native people, they were mainly British and American prisoners of war. In July 1944, they were transferred to the Mariso camp, closer to the city of Makassar.
