Internees: prisoners of war; men Information: The prison at Singkawang was composed of cell blocks on one short side and one long side of a square about 10 by 25 metres in area. The other short side comprised a fence with an entry gate, and the long side across the square held two halls, toilets, and showers. From the end of January 1942, men from Singkawang and surrounding areas were imprisoned there. Among them were six native and seven to ten British prisoners of war. On July 12th they were all taken to Pemangkat by truck, and from there transported by boat to camp Batu Lintang near Kuching.
