Bindjei is approximately 20 kilometres west of Medan (East-Sumatra). The Bangkattan Hospital of the Deli Maatschappij (Deli Company) was on Hospitaalweg.
Internees: women and children Number of internees: 120 Number of deceased: None Information: Women and children from in and around Bindjei were interned in the Bangkattan Hospital. They were housed in the European hospital, the 2nd class pavillion, and outbuildings. The camp was encircled with atap fencing. The main building, outside the camp, served as the general hospital for those interned in Bindjei. On May 9th 1942 the families of Dr. J. Potter van Loon and hospital assistant J.C. van der Kaaij – two women and three children – were transferred to a house that belonged to the hospital. Van der Kaaij was interned in the Tanah Merah men’s camp in the Central Hospital in Bindjei and remained camp leader there until May 26th, but was interned with his family on May 9th.
