Information: The majority of the “European” civilians from West and North New Guinea were evacuated to Australia in April 1942 by the Military Air Force. A small remaining group from Manokwari were taken, after the start of the Japanese occupation at the end of April 1942, to the STOVIL Camp in Ambon City. In the following months several dozen more “Europeans” from the Japanese-occupied areas of New Guinea were interned in the civil servants’ rooming house in Manokwari. They were also taken to the STOVIL Camp, arriving on 25 August 1942.
