Information: The island of Morotai was retaken from the Japanese by Australian troops in September 1944. It served as a sortie base for Allied landings on Borneo and Celebes. Ex-internee men, women, and children from Menado were housed in a large tent camp on the island. The camp also contained Australian, American and English ex-prisoners of war. There was a large Red Cross hospital near the camp. There was plenty of food, and the Red Cross distributed clothing.
